Podcast of the Day: Mel’s Video Blog #11

Well, isn’t this just perfect? This is the blog that Mel did about the LotR video that the duo shot in the park. She’s dressed up as Arwen and you get to see the before and after of her time with the guys. Doug is the one who is videotaping. She also speaks Elvish during the vlog and talks about her resemblance to Liv Tyler. I know, now that I mentioned it you can totally see it, can’t you? You can’t? Hmm.

Afterwards, Mel is on a total performance high, and she talks about needing to be free, as she runs away from the camera, the car, and her husband, Doug. Oh, what a magic moment. (Oh, and don’t you love Legos? I do.)

Song of the Day: “Frodo”

Jemaine and Bret

Frodo, don’t wear the ring.
I know it’s very tempting.
Yes, you will appear to disappear,
But the dark riders they’ll know you’re there.
Yes, Lord Sauron has many spies’

Eugene
Many spies, have many eyes’

Jemaine and Bret
One ring to bind them, to find them,
One ring to rule them all,
One ring to bind them, one to find them,
One ring to rule them ALLLLLLL!!!
Yea, Little Frodo!
You’ve got to rule them, Frodo, rule them with the ring Come on ruuuule them
with your ring!

Eugene
Lord Sauron has many spies, beasts and birds.
Mel
If you want him, come and claim him!

Bret
Do they, Gandolf

Murray
I am not a conjurer of cheap tricks!

Jemaine
I can’t carry the ring
But I can carry you, Mr. Frodo.
Dave
You have my sword,

Bret
And my bow,

Dave
And my axe!

Mel
Noro nim mish fir mar nim nor!
Jemaine
Mordor
Dave
We’ll never make it.
There’s thousands of them and only nine of us

Bret
Ohhhh

Dave
We made it

Bret
Hurray, we made it.

Bret and Jemaine
Yo Frodo, what you doin’ wearing the ring
All powerful jewelry, is that your new thing
I know it’s hard when you’re little more than 3 foot 4
Your little ass so close to the floor.
Trying to lead the fellows to the gates of Mordor
The Fellowship!
(Yea the fellowship)
I don’t rap about bitches and hos,
I rap about witches and trolls,
just passing on the words of the Elven king,
Wisdom to all
Frodo! Don’t wear the ring!

Frodo don’t wear the ring,
The magical bling bling,
You’ll never be the Lord of the Rings

Episode of the Day: Episode 11: “The Actor”

Umm, wow, I’m not sure where to start with this episode. Put Will Forte and Lord of the Rings together and you’ve got a winningly funny episode, I guess?

So, anyway, the episode goes like this. Remember, you can click here to get HBO’s heinously short synopsis. As if….So, anyway, Murray is really down during this episode, and the boys try to think of things to do to cheer him up. He feels like he’s doing a bad job with the band and that he hasn’t really done anything right yet. The duo decides to enlist some help, and find an actor played by Will Forte. They ask him if he could help them by pretending to be a record executive, and to tell Murray that the music is good, but still let him down, because, as you know, he’s not really a record exec. Anyway, the plan goes a little awry when he can’t say no to Murray and tells him that he’ll be offering him a million-dollar contract. Can you say “oops?” Anyway, there’s a music video that results, complete with Mel speaking Elvish or Elvin or whatever it is, I’m sure my boyfriend would yell at me if he saw that I didn’t know what the language was exactly called, but whatever, I don’t watch LotR.

Songs in this episode are “Cheer Up Murray” and “Frodo.”

Merch Item of the Day: Kiwi Jam

Okay, I wasn’t planning on having another merch item so soon, but honestly, I couldn’t resist, and I didn’t want to wait to post this in case I forgot. Whilst I was searching for kiwi pictures on flickr, I came across a picture of Kiwi Jam, and I was all “Quoi?” So I thought I’d scour the internet for a place to purchase said kiwi jam, and here it is! Yes, it may look like ants are crawling all over your food, but perhaps that will deter the real ants, or your rotten roommates that keep stealing your toast in the morning while you’re still brushing your hair and getting ready. Click here to purchase the jam, and look at the image above to decide if you can actually stomach it.

Featured Website: Kiwi Speak

I found this awesome thing on flightoftheconchords.com, a glossary of all terms Kiwi. I know, it’s hard to understand the guys on the show, but you needn’t worry any longer. You can keep up in any New Zealander’s conversation with little more effort than batting an eye after you memorize the key phrases on this site. Click here for the full list, but for now, here’s a little preview….

  • Fush and Chups: A.K.A., “fish and chips.” They claim it’s a healthy meal, and then go on to boast about the magnificent huge-sized burgers they have to offer there. Hmm, sounds a little too American for my speed to be authentically New Zealand, but nevertheless, you know now how they pronounce “fish and chips,” and I know you were curious about that, so you’re welcome.
  • Pack a Wobbly/Crack the Shits: Lose your cool/become annoyed. I’m not sure about you, but I would much rather use these phrases than get annoyed, and I’m planning on starting just as soon as I’m done posting this blog. Pack a wobbly….I wonder if they got that from wallaby…someone tried to pack one in their knapsack, it got angry/crazy, and chewed a hole through your bag. It “packed a wobbly.” I think that’s an awesome theory, so I’m going to say it’s right.

Now, go to the website!

Podcast of the Day: It’s A Kiwi Thing

This podcast is one of my favorites, kind of a “How Did We Get Here?” type of dealio thingamajig….I think you know what I’m trying to say. Anyway, listen as the duo recaps how they got from New Zealand to America in 20 easy steps or so. It really didn’t take as long as you might think (and I’m sure Bret playing Figwit helped the cause, eh? ) So yeah, listen to this podcast, It’s a Kiwi Thing.

Merch Item of the Day: Your Own Plush Squirrel!!!

I was just, really, exceedingly touched by how connected Bret was to the stuffed squirrel during his 1/16th of an acid trip, so I thought if you wanted to go on the same adventure (which I do not condone in any way….shame on you), or pretend that you did, you’d want your very own squirrel. Make sense?

Click here to purchase the squirrel. It’s quite lifelike, only 8.99, and, um, verified to freak you out if you are, er, altered in any way? Maybe? I’m not sure, I have not been altered in that fashion, or have I owned a stuffed squirrel, so I guess you’re on your own on this one.

Song of the Day: “Prince of Parties”

I think these lyrics speak for themselves….

I’m the pretty prince of parties
You’re a tasty piece of pastry
You’re so lighty flighty flakey
I go where the party takes me
I’m the funky monkey junky
You’re a flunky bunky donkey
You’re a picture of the devil’s daughter
I’m a pitcher of holy water
Oh pretty prince of parties where’s
the party now? - I don’t know.
Oh pretty prince of parties where does
water go? - I let it flow.
Oh pretty prince of parties can I come
to your party? - No.
Oh pretty prince of parties where do
you get your clothes? - They’re made
of snow. Pretty party clothes
crocheted of snow.
I’m the mickey Maori minstrel
You’re the high priestess of tinsel
I’m the guru god of ganja
Ramashalanka lanka ravi shanka
la la la la la la la la la la la la
